Heineken Lagos Fashion Week 2019….. Here We Go

After my first visit to Lagos with Busayo, I was captivated by the city's energy and culture. Intrigued by Lagos Fashion Week, I decided to attend despite only having visited Lagos once before. With no connections, I booked a flight and a room, ready to explore and see what would happen.

Fortunately, my dear Nigerian friend Simi, who lives in San Francisco, put out a call on Twitter for her friends in Lagos to look out for me. Thanks to her, I felt welcomed and at ease as soon as I arrived. 

On my first night, I visited one of my favorite stores in Lagos, Alara, where I found an outfit by a featured designer Selly Raby Kane from Senegal. Thrilled with my Outfit, I headed to Fashion Week, uncertain of what to expect. I remember my Uber driver said I needed a hat so he call over a man selling in the street and picked one for me … I thought OK

To my delight, when I arrived, my outfit was immediately praised, and I was pulled in front of a camera for an impromptu interview. Though I felt unprepared, the experience was all so new and exciting.

The crowd outside was stylishly dressed, and I did what makes me comfortable and started capturing the vibrant scene with my camera. It was all so new and exciting.
