Eripoto Collection 2021 KikoRomeo
As Iona McCreath steps into her role as Fashion Director at KikoRomeo, I had the honor of joining her for a shoot in Lagos during fashion week. Our collaboration stems from a shared passion for sustainability and ethical production in Africa.
Iona's new collection, Eripoto, draws inspiration from the vulnerability we've all experienced this year. This collection explores how vulnerability can manifest as both weakness and strength, illustrated through the use of opacity and transparency, and fluid and structured silhouettes.
The design elements are inspired by a Maasai necklace symbolizing protection and well wishes, reflecting the cultural and spiritual grounding that many of us have lost in the modern world. Iona's work highlights the importance of reconnecting with these roots.
At KikoRomeo, the focus extends beyond the designer to the entire fashion value chain. Iona emphasizes the importance of every role, from the farmer to the tailor, advocating for a respect-filled industry where high-quality materials and sustainability are paramount.
Through her efforts, Iona aims to develop Kenya's sustainable textile industry, showcasing the endless potential of natural fibers and high-quality materials that stand the test of time.
Iona McCreath's vision for KikoRomeo is a blend of creative innovation and ethical responsibility, setting a new standard for the future of fashion in Africa.
